| The JPS accepts
application for membership at all times. Applications submitted
are examined by the Board of Governors of the JPS, a process
that may take between 1-and-half and 2 months, before the final
permission is decided.
The rights and obligations of JPS members are specified in
the rules and regulations, which shall be sent to the applicant
together with the notification of acceptance. For those who
desire to know prior to the notification, we also send out,
upon request, JPS rules and regulations.
The JPS utilizes personal information gathered from applicants, as much
as is necessary, in pursuit of the objectives of the Society. For details

- Application form, filled by applicant
- Brochure for JPS membership applicants
- JPS membership application form
- Entry fee and membership fee for 1 year
- Students must also submit a document certifying that he
or she is a student at a school or a university

- Registration of data ・the applicant must also register with JPS data on name, school background, place of work, and home address. The form will be sent to the applicant via electronic mail as he or she types in the e-mail address and clicks the below JPS Membership Applicant Form・ Please type in the relevant data and send back to nyukai@jps.or.jp .

1. JPS membership application form
- Please print out and fill in the above PDF file. The form is also attached to the April and November issues of the JPS journal Nihon Butsuri Gakkaishi・
2. Entry fee and membership fee for 1 year
- Please use the below table to calculate the required amount
and send in cash or money order by registered mail. The applicant
is also asked to pay in a year's membership fee upon application,
which will cover the membership fee for the period between
permission to join JPS and the end of that year. The difference
will be carried forward, and the new member will enjoy a corresponding
discount of the annual membership fee in the second year.

- The above refers to basic membership fee only. The membership journal
Nihon Butsuri Gakkaishi・will be sent to all members who have paid in the
basic fee.
- Full member (graduate student)・refer to those full members in graduate
school requesting a discount of the annual fee on grounds of his or her
student status. (Please see below section 3 on certificate of student status・
- Student member・refers to undergraduate students at universities and
colleges.
- Nihon Butsuri Gakkaishi・and other journals issued by the JPS could also
be sent to foreign addresses, for a fee.

A full JPS member who wishes to subscribe to the online and
print editions of the JPSJ will have to pay
14,000 yen + 12,000 yen = 26,000 yen.
A full JPS member receiving graduate student discount who
wishes to subscribe to the JPSJ online edition will have to
pay
10,000 yen + 9,000 yen = 19,000 yen.

3. Certificate of student status
Those who wish to receive student discount of membership fee
must submit a document that certifies his or her student status.
Graduate students who request a discount in the membership
fee are entitled to a reduction of their fee to a student member
level (7,000 yen/year). In the absence of a certificate of
student status, however, the discount will not take place and
the graduate student will have to pay the full membership fee
(11,000 yen/year). Please also note that upon the student member's
entry into graduate school and upon the advance from the masters'
course to the PhD course, the member must each time apply for
a discount.
